We have been learning about creating newspaper reports. We started looking at a book called The Mousehole Cat and identified certain features in the story.
Working in groups of four we created a scene from the text, thinking about the character’s thoughts and feelings, and coming up with an appropriate headline. We learnt about orientation which is one sentence which explains a summary of the story, including the five W’s, which are:
What, Where, Why, Who and When.
We drafted a newspaper story and then we wrote a story based on our group’s work. Here is some of our work:
Some of us found the orientation a bit tricky but with a lot of practise of using the five Ws with other text, we managed to create our report. We have enjoyed being newspaper reporters!
