Class 5H music and art

We have been learning about the song ‘Living on a Prayer’ by Bon Jovi. We have listened to the song and then learnt the lyrics.  We have discussed the meaning of the lyrics and described the emotions of the song. We found the song linked to our school values, for example the harmony of the music, showing respect to Christian values, having faith in others and ourselves because “it doesn’t matter if we make it or not – we’ve got each other and that’s a lot”! Learning the lyrics of this song has made us listen more carefully to other song lyrics.  Previously we learnt the lyrics of Fast Car by Tracy Chapman which sounds like a joyful song until you listen carefully to the lyrics.  It is actually a very touching, depressing song.

We have spent a day working on art.  We have based it around Victorian times to tie in with our topic. We have researched the work of William Morris, who lived in the Victorian period, and was an artist, poet and politician. His art was based on nature and was turned into wallpaper. We produced our own artwork based on William Morris’ designs and decorated a square piece of paper which was then photocopied.  We then stuck the four exact copies of our design together on an A3 piece of paper to make a large symmetrical design. Our designs will be put on display.

Here are some examples of our work (click to enlarge):
