The Sports Captains attended the training for their new roles on Tuesday 11th October at Redlands Community Hub. The children were joined by 19 other schools to undertake intense training to become Young Leaders of sport across the school.
The day was split into 4 workshops, with each focusing on a different aspect of the Sports Captain role. The first workshop demonstrated the importance of effective communication when working with other people. The children had to take part in games where they had to talk to people they had never met before and negotiate different ideas. Workshop two allowed children to plan what they were going to implement once they returned to school – they had some amazing ideas! The third workshop looked at the practical organisation of a lesson, including preparing an activity for a designated year group, delivering it to a set of children and working together as a team to make it as fun as possible. The final workshop was focused on learning different playground games that could be easily replicated in our school playground to engage children during playtimes.
The Sports Captains absolutely did the school proud. They listened so carefully to everything they were taught, worked well with children from other schools and showed fantastic initiative – we are very lucky to have them at our school!
