The Fire Brigade visit Year 2!

getoutstayoutToday, we had a visit from Fire Officers, John and Rose.  They told us that if there is a fire, you must go straight outside and stay outside.  If you have left your teddy bear and your mobile phone in the building, don’t go back in – ask a neighbour to phone 999 for you!

John and Rose said that if there is a fire, your fire alarm should go off to warn you to get out of the building.  If you don’t have a fire alarm, you can get one free from the Fire Brigade.  We were given stickers showing the Fire Brigade website address – www.dwfire.org.uk.

safebonfirenightJohn talked to us about staying safe on Bonfire Night. He told us not to light fireworks without a grown-up – only grown-ups should light fireworks. John also suggested that if you have sparklers, you should wait until your mum, dad, grandparents, or another adult light it for you.

We also learnt the stop, drop and roll method to put out flames if your clothes catch fire.

John told us a rhyme:

Matches and lighters, never touch.

They can hurt you very much!

We enjoyed John and Rose’s visit.

It’s great for my daughter to find out about fire and to learn what some of the procedures are for emergency situations.
Now that she knows what to do if there is a fire, I feel safer knowing that she will be OK in an emergency.
Thank you for this safety talk.

I have really enjoyed hearing all about what 2T have been learning about fire safety, it has certainly reminded me of the golden rules of fire safety. I also feel reassured that my son now knows what to do in an emergency.

A very interesting and useful topic, and one that my son is particularly enjoying.

Good to see them learning about this early in life – very important lessons for all children.

Jakob still remembers the Stop, Drop and Roll technique – enjoyed showing me what to do.
