Today we have started looking at some books by Ricky Gervais called ‘Flanimals’. The flanimals are made-up creatures of different colours, shapes and sizes.
For our literacy lesson we were asked to organise a paragraph around a theme. We used the Flanimals as a theme. We had to think about different abilities the flanimals have developed through time and write an interesting paragraph.
We looked at a sheet containing technical words, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and adverbial phrases. An example of an adverbial phrase is “After it eats, it gets ten times bigger”- starting a sentence in a particular way and giving a good description of what’s happening. We ‘burgled’ some interesting words to help us with our work.
We haven’t seen the Flanimals books before today and found them funny, interesting and horrifying – some of the flanimals are very odd!
We are looking forward to reading more Flanimals! Some of the books are quite peculiar! Here are some examples of our work so far (click images to enlarge):
