Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School & Community Nursery

School Day

Start of the day

The gates open at 8.30 am for pupils to come onto the school grounds.

Children should not arrive before this time as no supervision is available.
Children make their own way into their classrooms and lessons start at 8.45am. Morning tasks (from 8.30 am) ensure that children make a productive start to their learning from the very beginning of the day.

There is a morning break for all year groups:

  • Reception – 10:00 am
  • Year 1 & 2- 10:20am
  • Year 3 & 4 – 10:40 am
  • Year 5 & 6 – 11:00 am

We encourage children to eat healthy snacks at morning break. This might be a piece of fruit, a snack of vegetables, or a savoury item such as cheese, breadsticks or crackers.

We do not allow sweets and chocolate as a break time snack.

Lunch

All pupils have lunch between 12.00 noon and 12:45 pm.

Children can purchase a hot school lunch which needs to be ordered in advance. Please speak to the school office for further information or contact the Dorset Council website at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/home.aspx to apply. Alternatively, you may provide a packed lunch from home.

Lunch boxes should be small and clearly marked with the owner’s name. Fizzy drinks, glass bottles, breakable flasks and cans are not allowed. Due to the increasing number of children with severe allergies, nuts must not be brought into school.

Children entitled to a free school meal will be provided with a hot meal each day. If you feel that your child may be entitled to free school meals, please do not hesitate to ask for an application form from the school office. It really helps the school’s funding if you register for free school meals even if you do not intend to take up the meal each day.

Further details about free school meals are available from Dorset County Council:

End of the day

The school day ends at 3:15 pm for all pupils.

Children are dismissed via various exits into the main playground.

  • Nursery: Nursery gate.
  • Reception: Reception outside area gate or the end of the Reception corridor (class dependent).
  • Year 1: Year 1 outside area gate or the end of the Reception corridor (class dependent).
  • Year 2: Classroom doors.
  • Year 3 & 4: Children are walked out to the school MUGA. Please wait here for the class teacher to release them and do not try and collect them from the line on the way across the playground!
  • Year 5: Door at the end of the building closest to the MUGA. (A good place to wait so that you can see the children coming from this door is next to the new climbing frame on the main playground).
  • Year 6: Main stairs.

Parents are invited to wait on the playground to collect their children. For children up to the end of Year 3, we ask that an adult is available to collect children every day. From Year 4, parents may choose to let their child walk home unaccompanied-permission for this must be given in writing (via email) to the school office.

If you need to make changes to your child’s collection arrangements, please contact the school office with plenty of notice, and before 2.30 pm at the latest. Teachers will only release to people named on the end-of-day collection list due to safeguarding reasons.
